Operations Specialist school is offered from 18-31JUL10.

 

Operations Specialists function as plotters, radio-telephone and Command and Control sound-powered telephone talkers and maintain Combat Information Center (CIC) displays of strategic and tactical information. They also operate surveillance and altitude radars' Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), and associated equipment, serve as Air Traffic Controllers for helicopters and fixed-wing supersonic jet aircraft, and serve as watch supervisors and section leaders; interpret and evaluate presentations and tactical situations and make recommendations to supervisors during watch conditions.

    

Provide to the command technical information and assistance related to Anti-Surface Warfare, Anti-Air Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Amphibious Warfare, Mine Warfare, Naval Gunfire Support, and search and rescue operations, and other matters pertaining to the Operations Specialist's area.
    

The United States Navy's "A" School for Operations Specialists is located at NAVSTA GLKS as part of the Center for Surface Combat Systems, Great Lakes. The instructors for this training are active duty Navy personnel from the Center for Surface Combat Systems, and you'll have the opportunity to get a first hand look at this high tech field.

    

Cadets should arrive between 1200 (noon) and 1600 on Sunday, 18JUL10. Cadets MUST be aboard and checked in no later than 1600. Please make travel arrangements that fit this window.

    

Officers/staff should arrive between 0800 and 1600 on Saturday, 17JUL10.

    

Graduation will be in BLDG 122 aboard NAVSTA GLKS at 1000 on Saturday, 31JUL10. Cadets traveling home via commercial air should book their return flight NO EARLIER THAN 1400.
